ESSENCE OF BEING

The
Grandmother Medicine Retreat
A 6-week journey of preparation, ceremony, and integration, exploring healing, awareness, and the deeper nature of Self.

The Grandmother Retreat is held as a 6-week journey of preparation, traditional medicine ceremonies, and integration - not as a standalone retreat, but as a carefully supported process.
The journey includes preparation before the retreat, a 4-day gathering, and four weeks of integration afterwards, recognising that meaningful work with plant medicines unfolds over time and cannot be rushed.
During the retreat, participants are held for four days in a calm, spacious, and safe container, closely supported by nature.
Within this space, traditional Grandmother ceremonies are held alongside therapeutic integration sessions, allowing experiences to be met and grounded as they arise.
Rather than emphasising intensity or peak states, the retreat supports steadiness, clarity, and integration - so what is revealed through ceremony can be embodied and carried into everyday life.
“The real work is to bring what’s
been seen back into ordinary life.”
ESSENCE OF BEING

The Rhythm of the Journey
What This Retreat Is About
This retreat is not based around peak experiences or spiritual breakthroughs.
It is about creating the conditions for deep, honest inner work to unfold - without pressure, performance, or overwhelm.
The medicine is met with care and respect, not used to escape, fix, or chase insight.
Silence, simplicity, and presence shape the container, supporting steadiness, clarity, and integration.
The emphasis is not on what happens in ceremony, but on how experience is met - so what is revealed can be understood, embodied, and lived.
Meeting the Medicine with Care
Plant medicines are approached here as a relationship and a support - not an experience to collect or an answer to find.
The work is guided inward, using the medicine to illuminate habitual patterns of mind and to support clearer seeing beyond them.
The ceremonies themselves are held in line with traditional Grandmother ceremonies, while the wider container around them is shaped by simplicity, mindful presence, and periods of silence - allowing experiences to be met and integrated without externalising meaning.
What matters most is not what arises in ceremony, but how it is met before, during, and afterwards - and whether it supports integration and a more grounded way of living.

Preparation Is Part of the Work
Preparation begins well before arrival and is held as an essential part of the journey.
In the days leading up to the retreat, participants are supported through a guided preparation and Dieta process, designed to slow the body and mind, simplify daily rhythms, and arrive settled rather than rushed.
This includes clear guidance around mindful eating and Dieta, supportive audio practices and meditations, and practical preparation for working with the medicine, held responsibly and with care.
A group preparation call offers shared guidance, and space for questions, helping participants arrive grounded, informed, and supported.
Integration Is Where It Becomes Real
The work doesn’t end when the retreat finishes - it takes shape in daily life.
Integration is central to this journey, allowing what has been seen to be lived rather than held as an isolated experience.
Support continues for four weeks after you return home, helping you land gently at first and then bring clarity into how you live, choose, and move forward.
Through structured integration guidance and group calls, space is offered to reflect, stabilise, and ground what has arisen - supporting the movement from insight into aligned action, without rushing.
The emphasis is on ordinary life - relationships, work, emotions, and the body - so what has been recognised can inform values, choices, and next steps.
Integration here is not about holding onto an experience.
It is about learning how to live from what has been recognised.

Is This Retreat a Supportive Fit for You Right Now?
This retreat is suited for those who feel drawn to work with plant medicines in a grounded, inward, and conscious way.
It may resonate whether you are new to this work or already experienced, particularly if you are less interested in extraordinary experiences and more interested in understanding your inner world and allowing the mind to soften.
Many who are drawn here carry emotional weight or unresolved pain, and are seeking healing that is steady, safe, and integrated rather than intense or performative.
This is a slower, quieter container that invites patience, honesty, and a willingness to meet experience as it is - allowing awareness, rather than intensity, to guide what unfolds.
If you are currently seeking quick fixes, dramatic breakthroughs, or certainty on demand, this may not feel supportive right now.
That doesn’t mean this work isn’t for you - only that another moment, or a different space, may be more appropriate.
The 6 Week Transformational Toolkit
Across the 6-week journey, a small number of carefully chosen tools support depth, safety, and integration - including traditional plant medicine ceremonies, mindfulness and meditation, periods of noble silence, ACT- and ERPT-informed practices, and ongoing therapeutic integration.
These tools share a common purpose: to slow the system, support self-knowledge, and clarify inner experience - helping participants arrive grounded and meet both life and ceremony with greater steadiness and presence.
They are not the destination, nor are they used to provide answers or fix what is broken.
They prepare the ground, supporting people to meet whatever arises with less resistance and reactivity.
Each serves as a pointer, helping identification soften and allowing awareness to recognise itself beyond thought and experience.
The real work unfolds in the space they help create - where experience can be met honestly and lived with greater clarity and ease.
How the Journey Is Supported
Support runs throughout the 6-week journey through guided material delivered before and after the retreat.
In the days leading up, participants receive daily preparation guidance, audio meditations, practices, and Dieta support to arrive grounded.
After the retreat, integration continues through daily guidance and practices, alongside reflective integration work, values and goal clarification, and weekly integration group calls, supporting insight to move from recognition into grounded action, and be lived in everyday life.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The Grandmother is a traditional plant medicine that has been used for generations as a tool for insight, healing, and self-knowledge.
On this retreat, it is approached with respect, care, and humility - not as a shortcut, an experience to chase, or something to “take” for results.
The medicine is held within a quiet, grounded ceremonial container, supported by preparation, clear structure, and ongoing guidance. The emphasis is not on visions or intensity, but on presence - allowing whatever arises to be met with steadiness, honesty, and care.
This retreat is not about seeking answers outside of yourself. The medicine is used as a mirror, supporting a deeper encounter with what is already here, and always within the wider context of integration, responsibility, and mindful living.
Yes - many people come to this retreat without prior experience of plant medicine.
That said, this work isn’t approached casually, and being new to medicine doesn’t mean being unprepared.
What matters more than experience is readiness: a willingness to engage honestly with yourself, to follow preparation guidance carefully, and to meet whatever arises with responsibility rather than expectation.
The retreat is structured to support both those new to the medicine and those with previous experience, through clear guidance, careful pacing, and strong facilitation.
This is not a retreat for seeking dramatic experiences or quick transformation. It’s for those who feel called to deeper self-inquiry, integration, and grounded presence - whether this is your first time or not.
Preparation is a key part of this retreat and begins before arrival. Working with the Grandmother asks for care, responsibility, and conscious engagement with the process.
The main practical element of preparation is the dieta, including dietary and lifestyle guidelines to support safety and clarity during ceremony.
Alongside this, you’ll be guided through meditations, simple practices, and light reflective journaling to help you slow down and begin turning inward.
The emphasis is not on perfection, but on creating the right conditions for the work to unfold with steadiness and depth. Clear guidance is provided so you know what’s required and why it matters.
Safety is central to how this retreat is held - physically, emotionally, and relationally.
The retreat is carefully structured, with clear preparation, an intentional ceremonial container, and experienced facilitation present throughout.
Group size is kept small, allowing for close attention and responsiveness to what’s happening in the space.
During ceremony, facilitators remain present and attentive, offering support when needed and helping to hold clear boundaries so the work unfolds with care rather than chaos.
The aim is not to prevent intensity, but to ensure it is met within a grounded, well-held container.
Safety here is not about controlling the experience, but about creating the conditions where people can engage honestly with the work, knowing support is available whenever it’s needed.
Difficult or challenging experiences can arise in plant medicine work, and this is a natural part of engaging deeply with the inner landscape.
Nothing that comes up is seen as a mistake or a failure of the process.
During ceremony, experienced facilitators are present and attentive, offering grounded support when needed.
This may include simple reassurance, physical presence, or guidance to help you stay oriented and connected, rather than becoming overwhelmed by the experience.
The intention is not to stop or “fix” what arises, but to help it be met safely and steadily. You’re not expected to navigate difficult moments alone, and support is always available within the container.
Outside of ceremony, there is space to gently ground and settle, helping experiences integrate rather than remain raw or unresolved.
This retreat is intended for people who feel able to engage responsibly with deep inner work. Many participants come with lived experience of anxiety, depression, grief, or periods of emotional difficulty - and this work can be supportive when approached with care and preparation.
That said, working with the Grandmother may not be appropriate for those experiencing severe or unmanaged mental health conditions, such as psychosis, active psychotic symptoms, or significant instability. In these cases, other forms of support are usually more appropriate first.
Readiness here isn’t about being “perfect” or free from difficulty. It’s about having enough stability, self-awareness, and support to meet what arises without becoming overwhelmed.
There is a screening process before acceptance, and you’re encouraged to be open and honest so we can ensure this work is held safely - for you, for the group, and for the integrity of the retreat.
Fear, resistance, and strong emotions can naturally arise in plant medicine work. When this happens, it doesn’t mean something has gone wrong - it’s often part of meeting yourself more honestly.
The retreat is held in a way that supports staying present with what arises, rather than pushing through or trying to escape it.
You’re gently guided back to the body and breath, allowing experience to move without becoming overwhelming.
Support is always available, and you’re never left alone with something you can’t meet.
The emphasis is not on catharsis or dramatic release, but on steadiness, safety, and learning how to remain present with yourself, even when things feel difficult.
The facilitators are there to hold the container - not to direct your experience or interpret it for you.
During ceremony, facilitators remain present, attentive, and responsive, supporting the safety and integrity of the space.
Their role is to help maintain clear boundaries, offer grounded support when needed, and ensure the ceremony unfolds with care rather than chaos.
They are not there to lead you toward particular insights, visions, or outcomes. Instead, they support you in staying connected to your own experience, meeting what arises with steadiness and responsibility.
The emphasis throughout is on presence and self-trust, with facilitation serving the process rather than becoming the focus of it.
After each plant medicine ceremony, we hold extended group therapeutic integration circles.
These are not brief sharing rounds, but deep, facilitated spaces where each person is met individually within the group.
The intention is not to interpret or define anyone’s experience, but to support understanding as it unfolds - helping what’s been touched to be seen, named, and integrated with honesty and care.
These spaces are held slowly and attentively, often over a few hours, allowing experiences to land rather than be rushed past.
Integration here is relational, grounded, and human - supporting clarity, meaning, and embodiment while the container is still present.
This retreat isn’t oriented around chasing particular outcomes such as healing breakthroughs, visions, or spiritual awakening.
While any of these may arise, they’re not the goal.
The focus is on presence, honesty, and integration - meeting whatever emerges with care, and allowing understanding to unfold naturally over time.
Rather than trying to “get something” from the medicine, the work here is about deepening relationship with yourself and your life as it actually is.
What often changes most is not a single experience, but how you relate to your inner world, your patterns, and your sense of meaning. These shifts tend to be quieter, steadier, and more lasting.
Integration is a core part of this retreat and continues well beyond the time spent together in person.
After the retreat, there is a four-week integration period, which includes group integration sessions held online.
These sessions offer ongoing space to reflect, ask questions, and continue making sense of what’s unfolded, while bringing it gently into everyday life
.
You’ll also receive integration materials and simple practices to support this process between sessions.
The focus is on helping experiences land steadily, and on translating insights into grounded, actionable steps rather than leaving them abstract or unresolved.
Previous participants have consistently shared that this extended integration period is a vital part of the journey - supporting clarity, stability, and meaningful change long after the retreat itself has ended.
This retreat is for those who feel a genuine pull toward deeper inner work and are willing to engage with it responsibly, patiently, and with care.
It’s less about feeling “ready” in a perfect sense, and more about a quiet knowing that it’s time to turn inward and meet yourself more honestly.
It may be right for you if you’re seeking clarity, integration, and depth rather than a dramatic experience or quick fix.
It’s also important to feel able to commit to the preparation, the retreat itself, and the integration that follows.
If you’re unsure, that’s completely okay. Questions, hesitations, and discernment are part of the process. You’re encouraged to reach out and have a conversation before deciding - not to be convinced, but to sense together whether this retreat is the right fit for you at this point in your life.
We don’t work from a single, fixed retreat centre. Instead, we hold our retreats across a small number of carefully chosen locations, allowing each one to be shaped by the land, the setting, and the needs of the work.
Our retreats take place in a mixture of locations across the UK and Europe, most commonly in countries such as Portugal and Spain, as well as the UK. For plant medicine work, retreats are held in appropriate legal and supportive settings.
Specific location details are shared well in advance of each retreat. This approach allows us to prioritise safety, suitability, and the quality of the environment, rather than being tied to one permanent venue.
